Twin Bishops for Easter
Vanilla Bean meets a bishop and enjoys fiery Easter Vigil
Vanilla Bean went to St. Luke’s for the Easter Vigil.
It was a big night.
A bright night.
A happy night.
Vanilla Bean had a very important duty: welcome everyone to the Vigil.
And one of the first people she got to greet was Bishop Gayle Harris.
Now, Vanilla Bean is a very important canine bishop, herself.
Bishop Harris is a very important people bishop.
So of course, Vanilla Bean put on her bishop’s miter.
And oh, my goodness.
They looked like twins.
A bishop and a dog bishop.
A dog bishop and a bishop.
Two fancy hats.
Two very important faces.
Vanilla Bean thought this was excellent.
Then it was time to go outside.
Fr. Nick lit the fire.
WHOOSH!
Vanilla Bean watched very closely.
She did not know lighting a church fire was part of the priest job.
She still has questions about that.
But she did think Fr. Nick seemed very pleased about it.
Then came the candles.
Tiny lights.
Warm lights.
Glowing in the dark.
Vanilla Bean went inside and sat near the front like a very good canine bishop.
She watched the people sing.
She watched the candles shine.
She watched two baptisms.
Splash, splash.
She watched many people be confirmed, received, and reaffirmed too.
It was a night full of smiles.
A night full of wonder.
A night full of joy.
And when the Vigil was over, Vanilla Bean got to rest by the fire while St. Lukers grilled oysters.
She got lots of pets.
She sniffed the night air.
She found an occasional snack.
She was very thankful for that part.
By the end of the night, Vanilla Bean was sleepy and happy.
What a lovely thing it is to be together,
to share the light,
and to welcome everyone in.
